volunteering at pals
PALS relies on volunteers for many of the tasks that keep us going, including taking care of and socializing our dog and cat residents, fundraising, attending offsite events, and housekeeping. Let us know how you'd like to help and we'll be in touch!
WHAT DOES ONSITE VOLUNTEERING INVOLVE?
About a 2 hour commitment, as often as you like, regularly (weekly/bi-weekly/monthly).
You will always be with an experienced leader.
Volunteer shifts for both cats and dogs are 7-9a.m. and 4-6 p.m.
Some people volunteer once or twice per week, while others volunteer once or twice per month. All of it helps!
Work with dogs includes walking (and playing!), grooming, feeding/watering, dishes, laundry, giving medication and cleaning (inside & outside kennels and playpens). If you'd like to help with dogs but don't want to walk them, that's okay. You can help with cleaning and feeding while others do the walking.
Work with cats includes feeding/watering, dishes, litter box maintenance/cleaning, grooming, laundry, giving medication and cleaning (and socializing!).
You can choose to work with just cats or just dogs, or both! Shift training is mandatory, and dog safety orientation is required prior to handling any dogs.
CAN I VOLUNTEER WITHOUT HANDS-ON WORK WITH ANIMALS?
Yes!
We are also looking for people to help with fundraising events, such as our local farmers market stand, events, and spay/neuter clinics.
We are always interested in people who can help service our machines (van, lawnmower, etc).
And at the board level, people with professional backgrounds in law, finance, accounting, non-profit management, or public affairs are welcome.
